I know it's closed source but it is really a fine piece of software. Opera 8.54 was really good (8.52 kept on crashing here) and then I felt invited to test out the new Opera 9.0 beta2.

A warning: the 9.0 beta2 will replace the 8.54 and will not install in parallel. The new Opera widgets are not really functional yet, I have seen some but they never stayed on top and crashed quite often. The new content blocker can be found in the menu and is hidden behind /Tools/Advanced/Blocked content ... It is not yet as comfortable as Adblock, since you cannot ad new rules by selecting a banner from the website, but you can add */ads/* and the like and get rid of quite a lot of stuff quite fast. The comfort of Adblock (or even the Adblock updater) is lacking though, but nevertheless content blocking is a hughe advantage over 8.54.

A changelog can be found here: http://www.opera.com/docs/changelogs/linux/900b1/

Apart from this I haven't tested much yet, for mail I still use KMail. Opera handles Bittorent files, but you won't get much control. If you simply want to download them and not manage them too much you might be satisfied. It worked well here, but I think I prefer Azureus.

The 9.0 beta2 ran stable here, crashes only appeared when fiddling around with the widgets (superkaramba-like items). Speed was impressive and I found only minor content-displaying glitches that were also present in 8.54. Macromedia-Flash and Java worked out of the box, the default printer was detected, but not the extra printing modes that were available via cups.

All in all: I use Opera as standard now. It starts faster, browses faster and now has everything out of the box that I always implement in Firefox before calling him my web browser (Tab-Mix-Plus, All-In-One mouse gestures, Adblock, Add-Bookmark-Here; to name a few.).

I use LN3 and took the *.deb package for Xandros that was offered to me on the downloading page (qt-shared).

Have fun trying it!
