View Full Version : Computer Techs need Private Investigator License
Texas now requires a Private Investigator License to repair computers. I guess that is to facilitate snooping on the innards of your hard drive. As a license holder I guess you would be required to report what you find.

PS. Ya gotta love Texas!

It would be sad, if this wasn't outright hilarious. Though, EU regulators are doing their best to catch up ;).

I find things like this weird! I can understand the 'bogeyman terrorist'/ paedophile angle, though I don't necessarily agree with it, but what makes me take notice is the effect it is bound to have on a small computer repair business. How can a one/two man operation comply with legislation like this? Will he have to complete a three year course to be a PI in college whilst he can no longer earn a living doing what he was trained to do? Surely this can't be serious?
I still can't believe this is actually true. I may go down the street to Bob's Computer Repair and see if Bob as a PI license.
I wonder if I'm going to need a license to purchase parts for my own repairs?
Thank goodness for internet (out of state) sales!

Here is an excellent editorial review of this absurd Texas law and how it came about. Unfortunately, the law will have to be rewritten to remove the ambiguity.
