I now have my Mac Book Pro loaded up with a large hard drive and 4 gigs of ram. After the comments here and reviews on the internet, I decided to install VMWare Fusion 3 on my new and shiny Mac.

I installed Fusion from the download file. It was easy and smooth, only taking five minutes or so. I then followed their cookbook procedure to install a copy of Win XP that I have had on the shelf unused for quite some time. That went very well too. I did find it amusing watching all of Microsoft's ads as Win installed, it was like being time warped back several years. :)

Once installed, I clicked on the VMWare icon and selected my new virtual Window XP. It came up quickly. I clicked inside the window with the cursor and I was in Windows! For kicks, I tried a game of Freecell. It worked perfectly. The biggest surprise was the speed. Win XP was much more responsive on this Mac than it every was on my old deck top boxes. Admittedly, the Mac has more resources than any computer I have ever had but it still blazes.

I have only tried one of the proprietary programs that I have to use. It is a grading program for school that requires Windows. It worked! It doesn't know the difference.

I am VERY satisfied at this point. The virtual Windows is there when I need it. I don't have to reboot. I have OS X which is a nix machine. I do miss Linux though. I may install CentOS on a virtual petition to see how it behaves.

What a fun machine. I can only imagine what it would be like to have a high dollar Mac and not the entry level machine.

Did you try unity? It gives you Windows windows on the OS X desktop :).
