I found this absolutely marvelous piece of software :). I liked the Apple Remote for controlling Front Row, DVD Player, and Keynote, but was always a little sorry that I could not use it in other applications. I did not want to buy one of the fancy USB remotes either, because the Apple remote is compact and uses the built-in infra-red receiver.

I started to look around, and found a great piece of software called 'Remote Buddy', which allows you to map Apple remote buttons to applications functions. Besides that, it already includes mappings for many applications. E.g., for presentations that I only have in PDF format (LaTeX foils/beamer), I can now use the remote in Preview or Acrobat reader. So, it's really handy for presenting stuff :), or doing stuff from your sofa :).

That is a great link. Thank you for the info.

It looks like I can use my iPhone as a remote.

A remote that has a healthy LED pointer would be very nice. I have one from Targus but the LED is rather anemic and is only useful when the room lights are out.
