My MacBook Pro took its first tumble today.

It was sitting on my bed while I used my recently configured mini-itx system. My dog Bella (short for belladonna) came galloping into the room and bounded upon the bed ready to defend home and hearth from some imagined intruder in the back yard.

The MacBook was vaulted into the air and landed on the carpeted floor with a resounding thunk. I hastily ran the dog out of the room and examined the aluminum skinned laptop. It didn't appear that anything was amiss. I turned it on and it has been happily working for several hours now. Pretty robust to say the least.

I'm not sure my Dell would have done as well and I'm not willing to give it the test.

Oh dear! Belladonna is often fatal.

.. and non-recurring!

Oh dear! Belladonna is often fatal.

Reminds me of my late dog "Rudi" - Akita + mystery mix - who was computer savvy.

Many years ago I was working on a document with DOS Word Perfect when the UPS man rang the doorbell. When I came back to my computer "Rudi" had reared up on to my computer desk and planted her paws on the keyboard. I could see the "document saved" pop up on the screen just before the power went out.

Sure enough, when power came back on my hours of work had been saved.

I miss "Rudi" as much as the good old DOS days when a power outage did not mean a scrambled file system.
