Dark line in iMac display :(

My iMac 21.5" has developed a dark line in the lower left corner of the display. It is about 5 cm long extending upward from the bottom and 10 cm from the left edge. Naturally, it is out of warranty. :(

Jikes! No AppleCare? You could ask them for a quote for repair anyway. How long past warranty? If it has just passed, they are sometimes 'forgiving'.

I called Apple, the machine has been out of warranty since March. :( No grade period. Fortunately it is not in a real bad place. If it doesn't get worse I'll be ok with it.

I have already planed for the fall. I intend to purchase either a quad core MacBook or a Mac Pro. I was looking at some of the new LED displays at BestBuy last weekend. The Samsung is just about as good as the Apple. They are finally catching up after a couple of years.

I could get the Mac Pro with a Samsung Monitor and save about $600.

My wife says she would be very happy with either my MacBook or the iMac as a hand me down!

I have a HP LED backlit display connected to my Mac Mini. It's not Apple Cinema Display quality, but still pretty good given the price. It indeed seems that the competition is getting there.
