I might be building an intel system rather than an AMD
what i am wondering is why i get like 3.0 ghz on a 60$ intel processor.

It is a Celeron chip and not necessarily 3 GHz. The information for each item is not clear as posted at Newegg. I personally prefer Directron. They provide a lot more information for individual items. You generally get what you pay for. The cpu is the limiting factor for speed not the motherboard, well they both have to have an adequate speed rating. If you are still trying to build a hot gaming system, this may not be as good as the AMD system you posted earlier.
