Google has now released a beta version of Google Earth for Linux.

I gave it a try and found that there is some minor issues with the display, but those go away when I un-maximize and then maximize the program window. Other than that, it seems to work pretty well.

Here it runs OK, the compass in the upper right stays invisible and I get grafics errors whenever I move the mouse, but it is already usable. Since my laptop is 2 years old I will blame it for that.

The data for Germany seems a bit thin yet (roads/streets are OK, other areas, e.g. tourist features or churches are sparse at present).

Wow, nice, I have an old compaq atlon xp with an old geforce4, nvidia drivers, zenwalk 2.6 linux, and it runs fine, no errors, while zooming in on my home. With the nv driver it ran, but achingly slow, of course. I'm surprised they have a linux version. Good for them.
