I just ran a minor update, using synaptic as usual.
This is a screenshot (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1249/418/1600/similkameen3.jpg) of the terminal display during the procedure

After the update finished, I decided to restart the system, to see if anything broke, but all appears normal, so far...
Anyone have some idea about what the heck was going on?

Edit: Well, I still don't know what made synaptic terminal display martian, but for some reason the sans font that was default no longer works... well, it does, but the normal characters are missing.
I changed the terminal display preference to arial :?
