I purchased Fedora 5 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Bible, Negus, Christopher, Wiley Publishing, 2006 in preparation for the switch to CentOS 4.3 later this summer.

It is an impressive tome at 1063 pages in length. It covers every aspect of installation, system setup, and administration. It would actually be a good reference and tutorial for the Red Hat Certification program. I am particularly interested in the chapters on networking and security. The book includes one DVD, a livecd, and an extras cdrom covering Fedora 5.

As usual, the service from Amazon was exceptional. Even with shipping I was able to obtain the book $15 cheaper than a local bookstore, including my teacher discount.

I have the 2005 version of the Linux Bible, also by Christopher Negus. I am very impressed by how easily readable his style is. Though a general book I have found it invaluable and think I would recommend anything he has written

I have been plowing through the Fedora 5 text. The first 9 chapters (400 pages) are all beginner material and not of much use. It doesn't really get into useful system admin material until chapter 10. The last 600 pages and the DVD/CDROMs make it worth the purchase price.
