Xubuntu install blues -- solved. . .

The issue was the mouse itself (it was working just fine with ln 2.8).

The mouse was a Micro innovation 3 button scroll wheel optical mouse (PS2) style.

The driver was an imps/2.

Solution: I got another mouse, same type different brand, plugged it in and now everything works. Driver is the same -- imps/2.

I would *not* recommend a Micro innovation mouse to anybody for any use except possibly target practice.

Glad you got a working mouse :)

As for mice I use strictly Logitech. They may not be of excellent quality but they work where ever you decide to put them, and they are afordable. I have never had a Logitech mouse that didn't work stright out of the box...
