If you want a very fast and capable OS that fits on a business card size cd, give DSL a try. You can download a copy in a few minutes. They also sell business card size hardware to support development. They are great group.

Yes DSL is a great Distro, I use it on my laptop, it's the only OS/distro that works fast and has all the hardware working out of the box. Windoze dosen't even work the sound right, but DSL has great sound.

Have you tried Puppy? it loads itself entirely in to memory, not using the cd after boot, so you can use the cd for other purposes. It's extremely fast and had quite a few included apps. Also a small d/l, but not as small as dsl.

I have tried Puppy it is nice. I have DSL 3.0 on a Lexar 256MB Jumpdrive with gcc and crafty. It loads to ram as well with the toram cheatcode.
