To increase the BSD-factor :):

The NetBSD Project is pleased to announce that update 3.0.1 of the NetBSD operating system is now available. NetBSD 3.0.1 is the first security/critical update of the NetBSD 3.0 release branch. This represents a selected subset of fixes deemed critical in nature for stability or security reasons, no new features have been added.

Hi Daniel, LTNS. I've been thinking of trying NetBSD but aside from the fact I can never get it to live with Windoze (still got it :() I'm worried it will be slow due to extra code designed for portability. Am I guessing wrong? If NetBSD is as speedy a system as FreeBSD or OpenBSD I might go for it... I'm thinking about this laggy feeling I get when using Slackware 10.2, compared to Fedora and stuff... it just seems sluggish... anyhoo, cheers.

Benchmarks indicate that it is about the same speed as FreeBSD and faster than OpenBSD. There are some old benchmarks over here:

FreeBSD is better at threading, so, if you have a multi-core CPU, or multiple CPUs, FreeBSD may be better for you (or Linux).
