Depends...

If you want to register "Mike Rosoft" or "My Cross Off" or "May I Grow Soft" it might cost you a bunch of Million$ !!! :smiley8: :smiley4: :smiley16:

Even if the price of registration is that low, the actual price is much higher. One of the demands is that a trademark is actively protected, or it will become void. So, this means that you have to send notices to potential violators, and hire a lawyer to enforce your trademark if a violator does not stop the infrigement of the trademark. Besides that, you need to build a brand and protect it for some time before you can register it as a trademark.

On the upside: you don't have to register a trademark to be able to defend it.

So, if you want a trademark: build it, hire a lawyer when someone is in violation of the trademark. And consider registering the trademarks after doing that for a few years.

The filing fee is more like $325 and up. You do not get the money refunded if the trademark registration is rejected.

hah sounds like an expensive lawsuit to register mike rosoft :PYou heard about the guy in Canada, a few years back, who got sued by Microsoft? That was his real name... They had him shut down his website and he's gotten a few goodies in the "out of court" deal.

As mentioned above, MS is obligated to protect their trademark. If they didn't, they would lose it. As with any corporation, their purpose is to make money for their share holders. It is just that MS has gone beyond the legal boundaries doing that at times that has gotten them into trouble. Bill Gates is a very agressive businessman that usually wins. That is why he is the richest man in the world.

OTOH, it is companies like MS and Intel, that made computers the commodity that they are today. There was a time when it was unthinkable that a personal computer would EVER cost less than $1000. If IBM hadn't underestimated the PCs impact and purchased a non-exclusive license for DOS from MS, things may have been different today. I can still remember having to sign a license agreement for every single piece of hardware and software that I purchased in the early days.
