Hi all, another Libranet refugee here, pretty much settled on MEPIS.

I had been using a Lexmark Optra Color 40 printer with Libranet. There are CUPS drivers included in most distro's I've tried, and it does work in MEPIS, I just cannot align the cartridges. The machine it's connected to is running SimplyMEPIS 3.4-3.

Libranet included a nice little gui config utility for this printer called PUP. PUP has not been actively developed for several years. I was able to get pup_1.1-5_i386.deb to install on my SimplyMEPIS 3.4-3 and 6.0 machines, but it doesn't run properly, and seg faults regularly.

At linuxprinting.org, there is downloadable source code for a command-line utility that does what I need for this printer, but I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know how to compile or install it. Any help getting this to work much appreciated.

Link to linuxprinting.org download:

Thanks,

Paul

I've just started playing about with programming, so I thought I'd give this a whirl.

The source is rather old, (1998)

Anyway, to compile it you need gcc installed.

Copy the contents to a plain text file, and call it cartutil.c

For some reason, I can't post the rest of the procedure. The vbforum tells me it isn't acceptable or something, so I'm attaching a zip file... compilecartutil.zip

*mutter, grumble* :smiley7:

Sorry about that bluesdog. It may be a server setting. I'll check the .httaccess file but I won't be able to do it until after school. They have my server hosts web site blocked here at the school. :(

Thanks bluesdog.
I actually had gotten it to work, without realising it.
I used the ./configure command while attempting to compile it, and I got several errors, so I figured I was doing something wrong, but had no idea what.
But looking through my files later on, after my initial post, there it was - the executable "cartutil". Go figure.
It seems to work, printed an alignment test page, accepted new alignment values, so all seems well.
Maybe I'm smarter than I thought, but I doubt it. ;)

Great.

Now if we can just find out what particular word(s) make this board throw up weird errors at me

I tried to post a simple, innocuous, (to my eye), reply, and got the following:
Not Acceptable

An appropriate representation of the requested resource /vbforum/newreply.php could not be found on this server.
Hmmm. I used the word configure, gcc, stdlibs, go, error...

Nope, that wasn't it...

Let's see,

:)
Go ./configure

I used gcc, and eliminated all but one error by adding something about stdlibs near the start of the code.

Glad to hear you got it working ok, anyway.

We had the same unacceptable word problem on the old debianquestions domain name. I never could figure out which combination of words caused the block. It is set on the server side. Hostgator wasn't interested in adjusting their config settings. They said they get the blocked words list from a third party.

BTW, the issue should now be fixed. Let me know if it still a problem.
