I have revised my debian LTSP installation guide (an old version of which is in the Libranet archives stored on this website) to include Debian 3.1 Etch AMD64 as well as Sarge. Its title has been modified to:
How-To Install LTSP 4.1 in Debian 3.1 Sarge & Etch:
A Step-by-Step Guide for the Beginner
and can be found at:
http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/Debian
A new section in the revised version "fine tunes" your network so that the various DHCP servers and/or router do not interfere with your LTSP workstations and server.
I had planned on uploading it to this forum, but ran into difficulties. The data in my How-To did not display properly, and I had to remove it. The designers of vBulletin, on which this forum operates, apparently have a bug in their software. If you, the reader, try to copy text which includes boxes marked "code", the text in the boxes loses all formatting, *including* carriage returns. This is bad enough for a bulletin board, but disastrous for a How-To. (Apparently the designers did not want the patrons making and printing their own copies of data from the bulletin board!)
The reason for my updated How-To? Frustration from unsuccessful attempts to make the Edubuntu LTSP Dapper Drake version work inspired me to revise it. The few minutes that you save in Edubuntu by not having to install LTSP are grossly offset by the huge effort it takes in trying to get LTSP up and running. Directories differ from Debian, and instructions are few, old (last version), generalized, and frequently incorrect!
