Mepis 3.4 is available for purchase at: www.mepis.com

It should be available for free download within a couple of weeks.

I have tried Mepis and find it to be a very nice, easy to install system. The hard drive install is a very easy procedure from the LiveCD version. The new version supports nvidia and most new hardware. Since it is based on Debian, upgrades, new software, and security updates are very easy to install and maintain.

The desktop on Mepis is very user friendly with small icons along the lower menu bar for most commonly used applications.

Recently downloaded Mepis 3.4-3. Installed on my Thinkpad R31 without a hitch. The package management application even had the Marillat repostory included in the sources list! It just had to be checked to be activated. Very polished distro. I agree with the caution about activating the pure Etch repositories right now. There is a lot of activity in Etch at this time, so pulling apps from Etch can break your system. I know this from experience. It didn't actually break my system, but it sure bent it a bit. Mepis was one of the first Debian based distro's I used. Its what got he hooked on Debian.
