I am not sure if there is something wrong with my Epson 1660 Photo Scanner or I am missing the obvious. I have tried unsuccessfully to scan slides and colour negatives using VueScan, Xsane and Kooka. The output in all cases is just a multi coloured strip on the screen. Previously, I have successfully scanned photos using all of the above software but this is my first go at scanning slides and negatives. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Phillip.

I have an Epson 1650.

When you start the scanner application, make sure you check off "transparency" as the source media.

This setting turns on the transparency backlight.

Hope you are having a nice springtime "down under" :-)

Leon, I have been checking off Transparency thus the resulting output made me wonder if the scanner is malfunctioning.

Yes, a pleasant springtime down under so far thank you but it looks like it could a bad summer for bushfires. Ah well, can't have it all.

Phillip:

On my Epson 1650 "Perfection" there is a cable connecting the lid to a port marked "option" on the scanner. Before scanning slides or negatives, I have to remove the pad in the lid to expose the backlight.

I assume that some 1650/1660 scanners were sold without a backlight lid, as there is the "option" connector.

Leon, thank you for your most recent advice which proved that I had missed the obvious. Yes, I can now scan slides and negatives. I need to join the queue for a memory implant.
