I have had Time-Warner cable internet service for several weeks now. A static IP address is available if I purchase a commercial account and pay $10 per month on top of that. The total cost would be something like $89 per month plus taxes.

My dynamic IP address has not changed since the service was installed. I currently have an Apache web server with mysql and php configured on an old PII machine. I have a Linksys router/swith with the incomming traffic directed to that machine. It is working well. It is for my personal experimentation and education. I have settled on CentOS as the base OS.

I know I can use a dynamic DNS service such as Zoneedit or DynDNS to handle the domain name control in conjunction with a 3rd party IP address monitoring service / software.

In practice, how often does an internet provider change a dynamic IP address?
