I thought I would post this link from the linuxgazette:
http://linuxgazette.net/131/lg_backpage.html

The linuxgazette has been here for 10 years. It is my favorite Linux publication. It is free. The archives are available. The articles are searchable (http://linuxgazette.net/search.html). The archives can be installed as a Debian package (from Sarge)
http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_packages.pl?keywords=lg-all&searchon=names&subword=1&version=all&release=all

The format of this magazine could not be done in print.

It is ironic that the linuxgazette authors were (and are) some of the staunchest (I probably spelled this one wrong. I am a crappy speller, but I refuse to use spell-check) supporters of Debian. Debian will no longer package linuxgazette because they now reject the Open Publication License. (http://linuxgazette.net/copying.html)

The linuxgazettes' several articles about Libranet were the reason that I explored and purchased copies of Libranet a few years ago.

For a couple of years, Linux Journal magazine gave them some support and eventually tried to take over control.

Just read some of their work.

Thanks,

-BoB

Thanks for the post!

I particularly enjoy reading the LG archives and it's articles on the early days of Linux. Along the same lines, I enjoy the early versions of Linux Journal, before they became so commercial. I was a "charter" subscriber and had all of their mags up through about 2000. The move to Texas was difficult and didn't leave room for a lot of unnecessary things. :(

I also have a coffee table book that contains a lot of the early articles from Byte Magazine. They cover the very early days of personal computing. If anyone is interested, I could post reviews of some of the more interesting articles.

I would like to help with Linux Gazette. It is a resource that should never go away. During the school year, I just have very little energy left. Maybe some Geritol????

I don't know what is going on with Debian. I sure hate to hear of their troubles. The Debian Weekly News is on hiatus due to their experimentation with paying a few select developers ala Ubuntu.

I sure hope Debian survives. They are a foundation much like Slackware and possibly Gentoo and LFS.

I hate to think of a time where only Ubuntu, Novell, and Suse are left.
