The first snapshot of my book is now available online. It will be released in a "release early, release often" fashion. This means that there is only little content now, but I will keep the snapshot updates as I add content. The current snapshot is available from:

http://www.taickim.com/books/unixsystems/html/

I'll try to post every now and then in this topics if there are updates concerning the book. Have fun!

What do you have planned for the book?

Complete coverage of UNIX for users (no system administration, hopefully that's for part II), including vi/emacs, version control, and LaTeX.

When it's finished, it should be available on the web and on paper (via Lulu I think) under a liberal license. I plan to purchase an ISBN number from Lulu, that would be cool :).

Whenever the hard copy is availble let us all know. I would certainly like to add it to my collection.

Thanks for all the kind comments! :) I'll let you guys know when the printed version is available. For the meanwhile:

Updates:

- Added a section about Access Control Lists (ACLs). I'll go over this a few more times. ACL compatibility between Unices is a complete mess.

---
PS. I could probably use the help from one or two people to test things when the book is finished. But I'll drop a note when the time comes.

As usual, good work Daniel. Have you tried sending your writings to No starch press or O'Reilly's?

Dave

PS I'm also looking at lulu.com to get a book of my images published ;)

I'd like to run my own small bussiness, not that of $MEGACORP (ok, No starch is small ;)).

PS I'm also looking at lulu.com to get a book of my images published ;)

They have interesting offers :).

Nice work, indeed. I'll be going through this in detail in the coming weeks as I play (again) with FreeBSD.

Pfew, it has been a while. I have added sections about POSIX regular expressions, and put some parts for the process management chapter in place. I didn't have much time the last few months, considering these constraints it has been progressing nicely.
