Is there any interactive language learing software for Linux?

I searched Debian packages and came up with these:

klatin - application to help revise/teach Latin
klettres - foreign alphabet tutor for KDE
kvoctrain - vocabulary trainer for KDE
kwordquiz - flashcard and vocabulary learning program for KDE

I'm supprised that there are not very many.

There is not much, I checked the internet, quite a few for windows, nix for *nix, Free or otherwise.

The dearth of language learning software is weird, isn't it?

I finally broke down a few months ago and purchased software from RosettaStone. It's expensive, but it stands head and shoulders above every other language software package I've looked at.

The only reason I bought it was that my employer replaced all desktop computers with laptops, at which point I had a version of Windows that I could bring home with me at the end of the workday.

RosettaStone made it crystal clear to me that they have no intention of producing a unix version of their software. :-(

How demanding does the software seem to be for the OS and hardware, Harold? Does it look like it would have a chance of working with Wine or some other emulator?

At least they have a Mac version. The new Mac OS is not as easy to emulate as it ought to be, either, but starts out closer than the Wine people did bridging the gap to Windows... Maybe in another couple of years. <sigh>

Language software is one reason why I have a Windows partition on my machine. Sorry to hear it's still going to be there for awhile.
