Oralux is working on a new beta. I have tried a pre-release version. Oralux 0.6 alpha has always been very good. The new version is going to be much better.

I'll post more details as soon as possible!

The 0.7 alpha release of Oralux was just announced.
Giles and his development group have done a great job!

+ Overview
Oralux 0.7 alpha proposes three audio environments (Emacspeak, Yasr,
Speakup), six languages (Brazilian Portuguese, English, French,
German, Russian, Spanish), and Braille drivers (Brltty 3.7.2).

Oralux 0.7 alpha is based on Knoppix 4.02 (kernel 2.6.12).

+ Features

++ Emacspeak 23.0 by TV Raman plus patches by Igor B. Poretsky
(Multispeech speech server, tables linearization under w3m and much
more). Some of these patches are now in the Emacspeak repository.

++ Yasr 0.6.7 by Mike Gorse plus patches (voice synthesizer
reinitialization and more).
Patches now available in the Yasr repository.

Under Oralux, Yasr works with Tengoo, Oralux text transcoder (alpha release).

++ The Speakup screen reader by Kirk Reiser and Andy Berdan is the new
environment proposed in the Oralux CD.
Patch for Speakup and non English characters is now available in the
Speakup repository.

Multispeech-up, based on Speechd-up, connects Speakup to Multispeech.

++ Speechd-up connects Speakup to Speech Dispatcher. Speechd-up and
Speech Dispatcher are softwares by Freebsoft.

++ Multispeech extended to six languages, now available in the
Multispeech repository.

++ Mcvox is our attempt to propose Midnight Commander for voice
synthesizer, Braille displays and tiny screens.

++ New voice Synthesizers:
Brazilian Portuguese with ttpport by Cassio Santos (Oralux) and al (Alistair
D. Conkie, Eduardo Reis, Luis Alves).

English: enhanced by Enlex the English phonetizer maintained by Igor
B. Poretsky.

French: Cicero TTS 0.7 by Nicolas Pitre and Stephane Doyon.

German: txt2pho by Thomas Portele.

Spanish: software from the IrcHa team

MBROLA: br1 database by Denis R. Costa, de6 database by Dr Marc
Schroeder, es1 originally created by Alistair D. Conkie and al, fr4 by
Vincent Pagel, and more.

The default audio driver comes from ALSA. The oss cheatcode is also
proposed.
