The US Congress is beginning to consider an expansion of the Digital Melineum Copyright Act.

That is certainly bad news for the Open Source Community. The Feds would be able to prosecute individuals for a wide range of "thought crimes", merely talking about decryption could be a justification for arrest.

Everyone that believes in free speech and sharing ideas should stay on top of this one!

More bad laws:
Trade Mark Dilution Revision Act impact on free speech (http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/columns/shoptalk_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002384406).
House Judiciary Committee draft bill on copyright infringement impact on criminal penalties (http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/archives/004586.php) for what used to be "fair use".

What's next?

I know that this may be hard to believe. . . .

But

This is not about you.

It is about what happens to your friends, your relatives, your children, your grandchildren.

And the people that are scared.

It is about forcing the American people into submission to benefit the established corporations at the expense of you and I.

I also heard about these pirates (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2002606783_pirates06.html).
but I don't understand what it has to do with record companies.

i heard it on the radio that some companies were taking effect on people reselling their music illegally. thats what i meant. I dont know why these companies need to spend their money on something that is going to take little effect on piracy. Not like theyll just go home and record/download them again.

but the mp3 sptreaming ban might help some.

i dont like what their trying to do to free speech either....

ooh and nice to meet you ...
