I'm wondering if the majority would be interesting in having a special "Libranet to Etch" section where help and tips and personnal experiences would be concentrated for the Libranet alumni(a) who want to move to Etch, in order to maintain Debian's compatibility, when it is released?

Maybe a forum section is a bit much, but you know there's going to have to be a thread in Help Please and a HOWTO!

The idea of a special section is that the topics do not get buried in "Help" and "How to" those being "general Linux" topics... So those who do the move later would only need to go there to see if their specific problem got solved instead of searching through many other posts.

Just a thought.

It looks like a go from the poll. I'll set it up this weekend.

In my humble opinion, the forum is getting far to many subforums ;). It may be more useful to make a sticky topic somewhere?

That's another way to do it, also.

How many are still using Libranet? I moved to Etch as soon as Sarge came out. Etch will be stable shortly, time to upgrade again

I have 16 computers originally on Libranet 3 which were synaptic default upgraded to Sarge using Sarge, Sarge security, debian multimedia sarge and debian unofficial sarge repositories.

The specific notes comments and experiences of this forum were invaluable in this migration and I deeply apreciate Linux Agora for this, especially the thread Libranet 3 to Sarge w/security updates.

Although they are now Sarge with LN3 modifications systems, I would really like to know how to migrate them safely to Etch in such a way that any further Debian upgrades or Debian computer uses are transparent eg VMWare installs.

I picked VMWare installs as I still have Sarge with LN3 modifications systems and again the wonderful preservation of the old Libranet forums archive allowed me to work out the minor change I needed to make to do this.

If this is not practical from a technical sense, then knowing upfront that I need to install Etch and keep my /home directories is also helpful (especially any tips on the best way to do this). Afterall, Sarge will probably only be officially supported for another year to year and a half.

I commend the foresight of those who established this safety refuge for Libranet alumni.

Thankyou
