I have 114 M worth of png images in a directory by that name. They are assorted into three subdirectories: /failed, /normal, and /large. They all have meaningless names consisting of long strings of random letters and numbers. When I look at them in a graphics viewer, they are all icons--the gnome foot, the Mozilla M, and such like. Do they need to be there? For purposes of backing up my data, I'd like to eliminate them.
Thanks.

This is KDE right? It's just cached thumbnails from apps (like Konqueror) that preview images. They can safely be removed. They'll be regenerated when needed. They're just to make the preview process faster... Since I have a fairly small HD I regularly deletes them and have not noticed any ill effects.
