View Full Version : License problems for Gentoo and BSD(s)
According to a story on Slashdot the culprit seems to be the original BSD license still being used in the libkvm and it is incompatible with the GPL which is what the start-stop-daemon uses.
The story is here (http://bsd.slashdot.org/bsd/07/01/08/1219254.shtml).

In reality the strictness of the GPL is more of a problem than the "old" BSD license. In fact, it has been used in everything from proprietary software to open source software (the Linux kernel even included BSD TCP/IP code in its heydays).
Anyway, this was an oversight by the FreeBSD developers (they forgot to alter the license notice). It's all fuzz about nothing. The statement from Berkeley that was issued a few years ago voids the clause. Kip Macy has just updated the license notes, though just a tiny bit of research would have shown that this is no problem at all (the Berkeley statement is well-known).
