View Full Version : Zoneedit.com
I have been using zoneedit.com for quite some time. They have always been very reliable.
The two servers that host three of my domain names are currently down. Have any of you ever used zoneedit? They offer a 3rd domain name server for 1 zone credit per year. That may be a worthwhile expense.

I just received this email from zoneedit. It was not solicited and I did not contact their support service. (They don't have an obvious support service contact listed on their web page.)

This is one of those rare situations where both of your servers (NS1.zoneedit.com & NS14.zoneedit.com) are
impacted, as the malicious traffic is impairing DNS services from being provided on these servers. Our engineers are
diligently working to resolve the problems but we currently do not have an estimated resolution time.
ZoneEdit customers who have third and fourth nameservers are NOT experiencing a disruption of service. If you
demand the highest reliability, for only $10.95 per year per nameserver, you can double your redundancy and enhance
your site availability.
end of email....
I am considering the purchase of the third domain name server service. I sure hope this isn't an advertising ploy.

Whenever I have searched for a domain hosting provider one of my requirements is that the server be running either GNU/Linux or BSD.
And let me tell you here in New Mexico trying to find a GNU/Linux or BSD hosting provider is akin to squeezing blood out of a turnip.

I registered my domains with Gandi (http://www.gandi.net/), it includes DNS services (yeah, you can hand-edit DNS entries, IIRC also AAAA records \o/), and I never noticed any downtime. They are quite free software-oriented, and organisations like the Free Software Foundation (and the GNU project) are also registred with them.
The three domain names that I had on zoneedit's ns1 and ns14 name servers are still down. I moved one to dnsmadeeasy. Still no joy. I have one with zoneedit that is on two different name servers that is still up and running.
I'm going to go look at gandi.net now.
Thank you!

The zoneedit situation is now worked out completely. Their DNS servers are fully functional and everything has propagated back through the internet and all is right with the universe.
I have moved percenthost.com over to dnsmadeeasy.com I not going to place all of my eggs in one basket again. I am going to subscribe to backup DNS servers at both dnsmadeeasy and zoneedit. Maybe that will provide enough redundancy to keep things running most of the time.
