Shared Computer

My girlfriend and I both use the same computer. We each have our own user account set up, which is good for a number of reasons. However, there are some things that I would like us both to have access to, particularly music. We each have our own folders for music within our home folders, but we have a collection of cds ripped that need to be shared. Within Amarok, we can add the cds/artists we each like, but overall I want the collection of ripped cds to be in one spot.

So my question is - does anyone have a recommendation on how this could be done. I was thinking of creating a shared folder within home for this type of thing, but I'm not sure if there's any reason that this would be a bad idea. Alternatively, I could create a share folder under / but I don't like that idea very much.

Is anyone else in a similar situation? If so, how have you handled it?

I created a:

a. Shared partition,
b. Created a group,
c. Added users,
d. Moved the files,
e. Adjusted the permissions of the files.

Worked for me.

Yeah, you could create a group, works great. Or use ACLs, if you have a reasonably modern distribution :).
