My daughter is an electrical engineering major at the University of Houston. She is currently involved in an ANSI C programming course. Just two weeks into the course, she has already completed a project that determines the roots for a function provided by an input file, via a series of iterative loops. She did explain that she has already learned Matlab and finds C a much better environment.
Her professor has been with the University for quite sometime and remembers using fortran with punchcards. (Finally someone from my generation!) The engineering students have a number of programming environments available on numerous platforms. The professor told them that she prefers gnu gcc on linux!
fos - A proud dad!
