The latest versions or Acroread are unable to print pdf files created with OpenOffice. This happens when an OOo document containing a gif with a transparency is converted to pdf.

OTOH, I have found that OpenOffice will correctly print word files created with older versions of MS Word, that new versions of Word will not format correctly.

You can use GIMP to convert a PDF to a .jpg file.
You might try converting the gif to jpg (e.g. with GIMP) and insert it into your PDF.
