Well I bit the bullet and blew off the Ubuntu installation on my laptop. I did a net install from the daily build of Debian Etch and I must say I was very impressed. The graphical installer worked nearly flawlessly. All of my hardware except for wireless network card was detected and configured without a hitch. Here is my hardware set up.

HP nx6110 laptop
Celeron processor
768 megs of ram
40 gig hard drive
CD-RW/DVDROM drive
Broadcom ethernet adapter
Broadcom 4306 802.11 b/g (rev 03)

I also have a Cisco Aironet 802.11 a/b/g card which has an Atheros chio set and does work with Ubuntu, Mint Linux and Kanotix (may it rest in peace.)

lspci seems to indicate the internal card is recognized: Here is an excerpt from the output.

"02:04.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)"

ifconfig does not show a wireless connection.

iwconfig reports no wireless extensions

I need to connect to a wireless network that uses WPA-PSK encryption. My install does have network manager set up, but when I try to configure either wireless card, (internal, and PCMCIA,) the working indicator just times out and defaults to a wired connection. If I disconect the wired connection, it just keeps on going without stopping.

I have gotten the Broadcom card to work with NDISWRAPPER in Mandriva 10.1but never with a Debian based distro. I have searched this forum without success. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Joe

Just to put closure on this thread. I finally got the Broadcom card working. Rather than duplicate another post, I will link to the one I posted in a different area of this forum. Hope it will help others.
