I announced new plancs and services for Linux Agora toward the end of last year. As usual, my plans have trouble keeping up with calendars.

The first thing I needed to do was to obtain a dedicated server. I have been experimenting with home based servers and seriously considered co-location.

Several weeks ago, I rented an AMD Athalon server with a gig of ram, a 250 gig hard drive and 1500 gigs of transfer bandwidth. It is entirely self-managed, so bare with me. :) The resources can be expanded or upgraded as needed. This setup should at least allow experimentation and expansion of services at Linux Agora.

I haven't given up on co-location. I still have a number of ideas I would like to try as virtualization matures.

I transferred the Linux Agora Forum to the new server last night. It should be more responsive than in the past since it is just about the only application on the entire server.

I still have some details to take care of.

Thanks for your patience,
fos....

Very nice!

PM or email me if you need any help.

Have you considered installing any additional stuff, such as a CMS? I'm particularly fond of joomla

Slightly OT: I notice the smiley menu to the right of the composition window appears to inconsistently parse the smiley graphics, since I logged on to the forum this morning --- I see only three actual 'smileys', and the others are in code/text !!

The smileys are one of the details that I have to take care of. I haven't installed them on this server. I was never really satisfied with the selection before so I hope the new selection will be an improvement.

I tried to do the move last night when activity was low. I always find it interesting to see how a domain reassignment propagates. I can only immagine how the response was the european side of the ocean. It was very come and go all night for me here in Texas.

Maybe we can try Joomla out on the front page. I have a little experience with Drupal. I have the new version of Drupal on an experimental site.

I"m sure open for ideas and improvements.

Thanks

Howdy,

So i guess the reason was to isolate the server from your other installs. Makes sense.

I don't see any though. If not for the front page i wouldn't have noticed.

You certainly are dedicated :)

As usual, a nice clean site ...
