Well, it's been some time since I've visited or posted. I see recent posts from many people from the old days, which is great:>
On to my question: I will be checking some HCLs as well, but I respect so many of your opinions I wanted to check here first. I'm building a new gaming rig. This machine will dual boot Windows and Debian. Since it's for gaming it will be running alot of hot new hardware. Has anyone heard anything reliable about support for some of these devices and chipsets?
nVidia 8800 GTS (this thing is reputably a very hot card, and I may opt for some 7950s set up as dual SLi, but I don't even know if that works in Linux). I'm pretty sick of the whole ATI vs. Linux thing, despite their recent lip-service to getting it working better. I don't know which manufacturer I would pick for this chipset.
If I go the Core 2 Duo route I'll probably grab a nForce 680i board (Asus Striker Extreme or Gigabyte GA-N680SLI-DQ6 possibly). I have no idea how these play together with Debian (mind you my Debian install is very old now days as is my hardware). I possibly might opt for a P965 chipset on a MSI P965 Platinum board as I've heard many, many nice things about it.
If I go the Athlon 64 x2 route I'm not sure what I'll get, maybe a Asus Crosshair board. I've read all the chipsets for the AM2 socket are so close to reference that it doesn't matter what you get.
At any rate I probably need to head on over to linuxquestions.org and check out their HCLs. I hope all is going well for all of you. I'll try and drop by more often:>
