View Full Version : Anyone sees a difference?

Maybe my eyes are getting old or maybe I just don't know what to look for but... Does anyone see a difference between the DVI and the RGB outputs on a LCD monitor? I jumped directly from a CRT monitor so maybe I would need to get used to LCD before to see any difference... I don't know...
Comments?
Thanks.
Andre, whether you will see a noticable difference depends on several factors. The resolution of your monitor, the actual application that you are running, and the resolution of your video hardware. When all the stars align, you should notice a bit of difference. Now having said that, I'm 53 and on my hardware, I do not notice much difference. The one area I can talk myself into seeing a difference is playing DVD's.

1680x1050. I do not see any difference in text apps, web apps or games... (C&C3 for instance).

Well, Joe, I'm 58 and don't notice much difference either... so it might be an "age" thing!
What difference do you notice with DVDs? Better flow of picture? Better details? Better colors? All of the above?
I haven't played DVD on the computer but I've always figured that when I hook it to a LCD TV then I definitely would use the DVI output. I guess that better the input (DVD compared to Divx OR HDVD compared to DVD) better the output has to be.
DVD's seem just a bit sharper. But to be frank, I could just be talking myself into it. The one advantage to DVI is that it may act as a bridge between consumer audio visual gear and computer gear.
From a purely paranoid point of view I don't think the RGB specification can be encumbered by DRM technology. I'm not so sure about DVI. I do know that the high def digital video oputputs do use DRM to control where the signal is ported to.

Thanks for the input (no pun intended).
I'll keep the RGB output for now, then. I have 2 computers hooked to the monitor (and kboard and mouse) through a KVM switch so it doesn't seem that I loose a lot by doing that.
I won't be surprised if that DRM thing causes the same thing that happened when they closed Napster: sales went down...
