I guess I'm the first to break into virgin territory. I'm running LN3 with the 2.6.11 kernel. I have two items for which I need help:
First, when I log out using either the menu, command line or ctrl-alt-del there is an erratic or inconsistent power-off. More often than not, the power will go off momentarily and then the MoBo splash screen will appear and a reboot will start. Sometimes the power goes off normally as intended, but not often; maybe once every five times. Anyone have a clue as to why this occurs or is it the instability of the 2.6.x kernel?

Second, when I click on the Terminal icon on the taskbar, the terminal that appears is only about 60 per-cent of the width and height of the monitor. In LN2.8, I found a file that I could edit to change this initial size. I have been unsuccesful in doing that in LN3. I would like the terminal to fill the screen when I click on the icon. Does anyone have any idea what file I should change?

Thanks 73 jorj NJ6I

First: I'm not an expert of power options but I would check the BIOS and see if those settings are correct. Maybe try other values until it behaves the way you like. Another possibility is that your motherboard may not be fully supported in the kernel.

Second: LN3 ties that icon to gnome-terminal (I think). LN 2.8.1 used xterm. Try some other terminal windows to see if you can find the configurability you're after. I may have this confused. LN includes xterm, gnome-terminal, konsole, aterm, eterm, and a few others. I didn't configure any of them. I just picked one that looked good to my eyes.

I can probably help you with the terminal issue. Which GUI (Gnome, KDE, etc.) are you using and with terminal?

For the power-off thing, you may indeed want to try a more recent kernel.
Although I had no similar problems with LN on my main machine, a fresh Debian install on an older Dell exhibited a consistent power off failure, until I upgraded the kernel to 2.6.15.

Thanks for the offer Fos. I think the ACPI issue is solved thanks to the suggestion about the BIOS. I went through the Power Management section and disabled the part about LAN activity turning on the computer and now it seems to power down properly. My cable modem is still ON when I shutdown the computer.
As for the terminal, I'm using the default Libranet terminal. I am not sure of the form of the term size command, which I believe is to be added to
~/.Xresources.

Any help would be appreciated. 73 jorj
