problem entering new appointments in Evolution calendar

I have been using Evolution as my calendar for some time without a problem. Now suddenly it will not allow me to enter new appointments, neither directly into the calendar (my previously preferred method) nor via file -> new -> appointment. The keyboard doesn't work and boxes and drop down menus are greyed out.

As I say, this is a new problem. Suddenly. This evening. I am stumped and would be grateful for suggestions.

Do you have enough file space were it is writting? Perhaps permissions got changed?

Permissions and space look fine.

I fear that the answer may be to make sure that I have got a hard copy of all the entries (in addition, of course, to having everything backed up), and then reinstall Evolution. :-(

Perhaps rename the file and try to import it?
