So, everyone is welcome to join the LinuxAgora IRC channel :).
Server: irc.freenode.net
Channel: #linuxagora
I suppose it will be somewhat quiet in the beginning, so stay around ;).

I'm getting this error message...
(06:51:41 AM) ChanServ: (notice) You do not have channel operator access to [#linuxagora]
you also need to factor that I have no clue as to what I am doing. I'm trying to use Gaim or is there another easier app.
edit: found that Xchat is the way to go. Google is my friend.

I use xchat but only because it came with the distro. I find it has all the features that I would ever use.
The op mode is for operators which is similar to a moderator on a forum. It has little utility other than setting the topic listed for the channel and temporarily kicking nicks off the channel, and setting other modes that are rarely used.
IRC is a live, real time, interactive messaging system.
Commands are prefixed with a forward slash "/".
A list of commands is listed at wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IRC_commands
I am a newbie at IRC as well. I have rarely used it.

I see we both are new to this, where is the 13 yr old grandson when I need him...
I'm in the chat room now and will be for a while.

Now all we need is a web based version that I can use from work. :)
I found this web based IRC client via Google:
http://ircatwork.com/
Just fill in your nick, irc.freenode.net and #linuxagora for the channel and it should work.

I've just registered, using pidgin as the irc client, following this how-to (http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/articles/pidgin?page=0%2C2)
Probably won't be hanging out there much, until the deep, dark days of winter....
