Is there an app to keep a daily journal ? or maybe a diary ??

// journal or diary?
If you are talking about this forum, I can set up a linuxagora blog that would be integrated with the site that would serve that purpose nicely. It would have the option to limit viewing to groups that you would select.
Is that what you are looking for, or are you thinking about something on your local computer?

I want something locally. Thanks for the offer on the web space.

My grandfather kept one and it was lost after he passed. I want to include mine with the 250+ years of family history I have put together.
It sounds like you need a good genealogy program. I have a Windows based version since my wife's father is really into genealogy and that is the one he uses. I tried converting him to linux - no luck so far.
There are several programs available for linux. Gramps is new and available as a livecd to try it out. Try http://gramps-project.org. I would place the entire address here but this IE version at school will not allow cut and paste. :(

autek. Have you considered using an application like tuxcards? I use this as a catchall info store but I'm sure it could work very well as a personal diary/journal. It has a Debian package and can be easily installed.

Problem with tuxcards it hasn't been maintained since 2004. Its not available in the repositories either. I'll take a look at gramps as well as geneweb.
Thanks

Been looking into this today. Have you considered Tiddlywiki? Just trying to learn how it works but it is used for many reasons, journals and diaries, recipes, note keeping etc and can be saved on your own website, offline on your own computer or in usb flash. I think it looks quite promising though I'm not quite up to speed yet.
Give http://pmwiki.org a try. It has a large and active community. It is very flexible and easily modified. I have been using it in a number of different application environments without any problems. I have tried a dozen or so wiki packages, this is definitely the best of the bunch.
