So, I bought one of those power consumption monitors. The results were quite suprising :), I have added a write-up to my blog:

I'll have to try a meter on my ITX boxes. They should do pretty well.

We replaced all of our incandescent lamps with the self contained fluorescents a couple of years ago. They provide about an 80% reduction in energy consumption. We also don't have to air condition the heat the old lamps produced. That is a significant consideration in SE Texas.

When the LED lamps come down in price, we will go in that direction. I have been using LED flashlights for quite some time.
