View Full Version : YALCP? Yet another link collection page?
Benjamin suggested that we add a link page. What is the consensus?

A cautious endorsement...
Links are good; articles/how-tos are better. :?

It would be better on a wiki.
So that the links could be kept organized as to category, topic, etc.

I have a couple of wiki's running for special purpose groups. They are a pain in the neck if you don't keep them completely locked down. You wouldn't believe the spam they attract if you leave any opening at all.

Dead link deserts are in fact annoying, I thought about a reviewed link page. That is for example you can vote that a link is good or bad and if the majority finds that a specific link is not worth the space it will be kicked.
The links should also be categorised and commented. Very often I read a question in a forum and I think "hum I answered this question before with a fine link I didn't bookmark (you can't bookmark everything)". So a proper link page which would in the ideal case be checked for validity of the links every three months or so, would be a great deal I think.
Here we would have a Debian-centric Link page, links to repositories with software that is not in the official pool (with comments on how good or bad the repo is) ... www.apt-get.org is often enough outdated or the search is not overly precise or you get a couple of repos for the same software but the package from X requires other dependencies than the package from Y ...
Think about is as a next generation bookmark page, not just as mere thrown-together everybodys bookmark.htm; I mean if this is possible to create here and if it will be appreciated ...

There Are some util's out there for checking pages for dead links, If one of these coould be automated(run as a cron job and remove dead links) That would be cool.
