I'm sure all of you can tell that traffic is dwindling here in Linux Agora. Maybe wee need seeder issues or something to generate interest. It may be that we are just too far from the demise of Libranet for the old timers to keep things going.

I will keep things going here as long as anyone is interested as it is only a hobby and not a revenue source.

If anyone can think of anything that might help improve participation, I am always open to suggestion.

At the very least, I hope that this forum will stay around. There are not many places like this, and I enjoy coming back here.

It's a bit of a chicken and egg situation: when few people post here, newcomers will be less likely to join, and without newcomers few people will post here.

I think we talked about this ages ago: but I think articles are a good way to attract people. Make a subforum that only the moderators can open new topic in. Ask knowledgable forum members to write articles, and post those in that subform (make sure that readers can post reactions). Make sure the articles get on OSNews, rootprompt, etc., and that will potentially give many visitors and also forum members. I think there are enough people around here with plenty of Linux experience, and the ability to write stuff down in a clear manner.

Once LinuxAgora is better-known, interviews with developers, etc. could also be published.

An RSS feed perhaps? The only way to see whether there is anything new is to come and look. Hardly onerous, but it requires more effort than a comparable mailing list.

What is your minimum acceptable number, Fos? I value and enjoy this Forum and also learn from it. Even negative comments can sometimes be very helpful! I should hate to see it go. Tho' it would be nice if we could somehow entice a few more to join who sleep and wake in time with UTC. ;-)

So, thank you for what you have done so far, Fos. Please don't disband us yet!

Thank you also, of course, to all the rest of you who so generously share your knowledge and experience.

Thank you for the supportive comments and suggestions.

I have no intention to pull the plug. I would just like the forum to become useful to people. I'm just concerned that with reduced posts the members that are left will stop returning as many have. The cost in time and money to run this forum are negligible. I'll keep it here as long as anyone shows up.

I'll check into RSS the software has support built in if I'm not mistaken. Quality articles takes a little more time. That may be a use for the blog option with some adaptations.

Although I've got a couple of article ideas, unfortunately I've simply been busier than the proverbial one-legged dude.

I belong to three or four other forums, and haven't been posting very much on any of 'em.

Now most of my outdoor work around the ranch is finished, I'll be able to participate here a bit more regularly.

Perhaps others have also been just too busy in RL to do much here?

I wish that I could volunteer to submit an article. But I have nothing of value to write an article about. I simply installed Ubuntu 7.04 everything works as it should. I set up Samba for basic file sharing. Configured the printer via Cups and share the printer with the wife's XP box. Wireless was a breeze and a firewall (Firestarter) was easily set up.

I mainly use my computer for Ham Radio applications, digital photos and of course email and browse the internet.

Not very exciting....is it

But I will do whatever I can to see this forum survive.

At least here I know I will get dependable answers....unlike some forums.

Take care all and fos if I can be of any help what-so-ever please let me know.
