So I was going to try Nexenta (http://www.nexenta.org/os) on the new Sata drive I installed in my computer, but much to my surprise, the Solaris kernel does not have support for the Via VT6420 Sata chipset I have. I turned off Raid support in the Bios, but that did not help.
For the people that don't want to follow the link, Nexenta combines the new Solaris kernel with a Debian userland so you can use apt-get to install items and their new version apt-clone with uses the snapshot ability of ZFS to make a backup of the filesystem when new software is installed. Bet you are clicking that link now. ;)

I was planning to try it in a virtual machine. Their APT plus ZFS package management seems very cool (a broken update can be rolled back at a filesystem level).
