Linux -based Firmware for many kinds of routers. This firmware has MANY options and outstanding performance for my Linksys Wrt54g v.5
You can even run some commands on the router witch i have yet to find a use for :P

My favorite option of this firmware is the ability to monitor it's memory usage and error reports.

Installation was pretty quick it only took me about 10 minutes to re-flash my whole router with this software.

AND if you have a wrt54gs v5 and above you can unlock the extra 8 mb's of ram thats available- just be careful taht command can turn a normal wrt54g into a dead brick.

-Definitely worth it

Interesting!

I just did pretty much the same thing a few days ago with my new WRT54GL, except I used Thibor's hyperwrt (http://www.thibor.co.uk/). (site currently down, as I post this  )

It provides everything I need, is based closely on the factory firmware, and unlike dd-wrt (http://www.bitsum.com/about-ddwrt.htm), is inarguably FOSS/GPL. (I'm not utterly convinced dd-wrt isn't, but I was not impressed with some of the stuff on the site, such as the 'store'.)

I'm also reviewing Open WRT (http://openwrt.org/) -- for my Fonera (http://wiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs/Hardware/Fon/Fonera)

btw, I'm so impressed with the Linksys WRT54GL price/performance, I may buy another one so I can mess about with hacking it!

XD i was thinking about doing the exact same thing, I wanted to implement some different-colored led lights into my wrt54g v5

I Bought a WRT54GL V1.1 a while back. Have to make time to try this.

Looks like the thibor site does not exist any more.
